This series of four introductory classes is for novice wine drinkers who wish to learn about and/or deepen their appreciation of tasting, common grape varieties, and production methods.

Single classes are not yet available. They may become available later.

Classes are 1.5 hours each at MF Chappell Wine Merchant. A minimum of six wines will be tasted per class session.

 

Elemental Wine Tasting - Sun, 3/10/24, 5:30

Objectives: 

  • Isolate and identify specific tastes and tactile characteristics of wine
  • Describe the effects of these characteristics on each other, the taster, and foods tasted with them
  • Build a vocabulary for describing wines

 

An Overview of White Grapes - Sun, 3/24/24, 5:30

Objectives: 

  • Recognize and identify tastes and characteristics of specific white grapes
  • Explain basic techniques of white wine production
  • Match specific white grapes to their native and major growing regions

Objectives: 

  • Recognize and identify tastes and characteristics of specific red grapes
  • Explain basic techniques of red wine production
  • Match specific red grapes to their native and major growing regions

  • Identify a sparkling wine’s production method via sight, aroma, and taste
  • Describe the three most common sparkling wine production methods
  • Discuss the three major rosé wine production methods
